A New Comedy of Unenthusiastic Reviews
For some, the most that can be gained by viewing the newly released Incredible Burt Wonderstone is comedic appeal stemming from the bellwether cast of funny actors tossed into an outlandish story. It's hard to mistake the lead character Burt played by Steve Correl from the David Copperfield like parody that the movie aims to capture. It's always been Burt’s' ambition to make it big in the world of magic and his boyhood friend Anton Marvelton played by Steve Bucshemi packs an attitude coupled with a willing dedication to accelerate his friend's career well into their adulthood. They make their rounds with vapid fan fare upon the stages of Las Vegas to generate a name for themselves. But as such a comedy would fatefully dictate, they encounter absurd obstacles along the way none more than a lack of skilled magical talent.
Standing in their way also is competitive rival Steve Gray, played by Jim Carrey whose self menacing routines are intertwined with a laughable persona that his character intends to portray. The down to earth actress sensation Olivia Wilde whose real life comedic side has revealed itself repeatedly on late night talk show appearances plays the part of Jane, an acquaintance who lends support to the efforts of the two piece magician ensemble. If Burt and Anton are to realize their sought after vision of wowing the audience in an all stars aligned break through performance, they'll have to cajole the doubtful hotel and venue owner, played by James Gandolfini to stage a make or break event.
