New Action Packed Movie Release
Director Danny Boyle who brought the neurotic glimpse of heroine addicted urban soul searchers to light in his 1998 film ‘Trainspotting’ and the contrived non-fictional story of impoverished third world India meets hope in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ has been at it again. Boyle’s new movie ‘Trance’ is a fast paced, partly subconscious story of criminal action that’s interrupted by a would be do gooder who otherwise becomes enraptured in the excitement and potential value of a crime.
The scheme is a museum heist where Simon, played by James McAvory switches his persona from a security watchmen at a museum to an outwitting accomplice intent on making the steal for himself. What’s at stake is a Francisco Goya painting that is part of the permanent collection of the museum where Simon works. Simon’s presence at the same time that a group of trained robbers comes into steal the work is more than the criminals had bargained for as Simon is able to fend off the painting’s abductors and take matters into his own hands. In the midst, Simon is dealt a debilitating blow that seemingly skews his reasoning, prompting him to outmaneuver the work of the thieves by taking the painting for himself. The story follows a style slightly resembling the movie plots from that of ‘The Italian Job’ and ‘The Thomas Crown Affair.’
In the midst of the drama, a hypnotherapist Elizabeth played by Rosario Daswon who initially looks to bring the effects of Simon’s traumatic blow back to health, finds herself entranced in the excitement of her patient’s serendipitous painting theft. Rather than doing the accredited work that as a therapist should, Elizabeth emphatically falls for Simon and the allure of high crime and attraction gets the best of them both.
